FAQs

Who is Rotaract?
A Rotaract Club is a Rotary club-sponsored organization of young men and women between the ages of 18-35 whose purpose is to provide an opportunity for young men and women to enhance the knowledge and skills that will assist them in personal development, to address the physical and social needs of their communities, and to promote better relations between all people worldwide through a framework of friendship and service.
Rotaract Club of Spokane was started in 1991 by Dean Merritt (Rotary Club 21 past member) when a group of young professionals wanted a service club that fit their lifestyles and interests. Over the years Rotaract has grown to be a flagship organization for the "up and coming" leaders of Spokane. Rotaract is currently sponsored by the Aurora Northwest Rotary Club and Club 21.

Since 2005 our club has been hosting the Jr. Lilac Parade as a community service and fundraising project. Please note that we are doing this on a volunteer basis and do not have any paid employees working for our club and on the Jr. Lilac Parade project.

What does Rotaract do with the money collected?
For 2010, after all the operating costs have been paid, the net proceeds were given to the Universal Playground Project. Please view our story about the Universal Playground on the Rotaract main page (www.spokanerotaract.org).

Is there a map of the parade route?
Yes! There is a map of the parade route on this website under the "downloads" section. Clink the link and print as needed for your school or parents.

Is there a meeting point assigned for schools and clubs before the parade starts?
2012 Parade **To Be Confirmed** - Parking this year for school buses and band vans will be in the Spokane Arena parking lot owned by Diamond Parking. Space is extremely limited and no private vehicles will be allowed in the bus parking lot. All clubs and organizations need to make other parking arrangements before meeting up at the assigned street. Line-up information will be emailed/mailed out as we get closer to the parade date. Please also note that no private cars, buses, or vans will be permitted to park at the Keller Williams building. Parking will be strickly enforced on Washington & North River Drive to make room for school bands, clubs, organizations, parade cars, dignitary vehicals, and Spokane police.

Where is the banquet going to be help this year?
This year we are not hosting a post-parade banquet. Instead, we present trophies to the schools at year-end school assemblies and/or band concerts so we are able to recognize the students in front of their peers and family members!

How does a school or club register for the parade?
Parade entry forms are available on our downloads section. You can fill them out electronically or by hand. Payment and Hold Harmless Agreements must be mailed to us. Please note that we depend on you to send them in as soon as possible to ensure that enough space is made between each band. All entry forms are due by March 30th, 2012.

How does our club request a specific entry number or space before or after another group?
Unfortunately our club cannot guarantee a specific entry number or space before or after another group. If you are considered a filler or individual entry (not a school band), our hopes for you are to create space between the bands as they compete in the music categories. We will take your requests, however, because this is over all a music competition, our club cannot make guarantees.

Will there be television coverage of the parade?
If you have a contact that can help us secure television coverage for the 2012 parade, please contact us via email. We would be very interested!

I am looking for pictures taken at this years parade?
Our club will be posting pictures that we have taken in our photo Journal section on our main page. If you would like a copy of a photo from this year or last year, please email us at
info@spokanerotaract.org with the specific photo name and journal name.

How can we contact the PR chair for Jr. Lilac Parade or Spokane Rotaract news/information?
The Public Relations chair can be contacted via our email address at
info@spokanerotaract.org. Please note that we are very interested in meeting with all media, but because we are a volunteer organization, please give us at least 24 hours lead time to prepare for all interviews.

Looking for contact information for the Spokane Lilac Festival and the Armed Forces Torch Light Parade?
Please note that our group is not associated with the Spokane Lilac Festival, we are associated with Rotary International.  Please visit their website for more information about our sister parade,
