In-kind Donations = The day of the parade, our club would greatly appreciate food and beverage donations for our dignitary and volunteers table. We are also actively looking for someone to video tape the parade and make edits needed for television broadcasting later in the year. Other items we would greatly appreciate are: Port-a-potties, a trailers, & gifts for our Judges. To make an in-kind donation, please contact us at info@spokanejrlilacparade.com. Each year Rotaract of Spokane, a division of Rotary International, hosts the Junior Lilac Parade, one of the nation’s largest middle and elementary school marching band parades. The Junior Lilac Parade has a long-standing tradition in Spokane, and 2012 will be the parade’s 61th year of production. Approximately 8,000 students, staff, and parents participate in the parade, along with members of community elected officials, businesses, organizations and groups. This annual May event attracts thousands of spectators to downtown to view the parade, celebrate their community, and to spend their dollars at local restaurants and retail outlets.
Organizers of the event are completely volunteer and spend 10 months planning and marketing the event. Money donated to the event helps to keep participation costs low for middle and elementary schools in our region. The few proceeds generated from the parade are used by the Rotaract Club of Spokane to support one of our many community projects.
In years past, monies raised have been put toward an endowment fund for scholarships at Community Colleges of Spokane, and for the design, materials and installation of the Universal Playground in Spokane’s Mission Park in the Logan neighborhood. The Universal Playground took five years to plan, design, and acquire funds to purchase equipment and pay for labor in order to complete the project. The Universal Playground was completed on November 1, 2009 and had a community grand-opening in Spring 2010!
You can help make future projects possible and assist us in keeping costs low for our community schools by sponsoring our 2012 Spokane Jr. Lilac Parade. Your company logo will be on our website and will be viewed by all parade spectators. If you wish to contribute to this year’s parade, please complete the attached form and return it to the Rotaract Club of Spokane.
